Role

Fei Huang                         UX & visual design

Xinran Lu                          UX design

Marve Svenningsen     Icon design

Responsibility

Make design decisions on typography, color choices, graphic patterns and iconography usage to modernize the look of the Meetings Windows/Mac desktop app, and optimize the user experiences.

Problems

1. The buttons and toggles are scattered in the interface, makes it difficult for users to navigate through tasks.

2. The interface feels outdated.

Solution 1 - emphasize frequently used functionalities

Two major changes:

1. Create information hierarchy: relocate the meeting information and hide app menu (show menu by default)

2. Highlight meeting layout toggles, display on the active speaker video

Solution 2 - create modern UI through visual improvments

Three major changes:

1. Custom typography: replace Windows and Mac system fonts with Cisco Sans (a Cisco owned custom fonts) for uniqueness and professional appearance.

Use different weights (extra light, light, regular and bold) to build information hierarchy and help users access key information easily.

New design

2. Improved iconography: replace gradient icons with flat icons to reduce to its minimal form.
